Assad is a desperate leader.

To paraphrase an old saying, never interfere with an enemy when he is defeating himself. I fear that is what we may do in Syria.

Assad is in the middle of a terrible civil war. In the last few years, he has killed over 100,000 of his own people, according to reports. How could he have not turned most of his countrymen against him?

Fighters have come from other countries to fight against his tyrannical rule. They have taken over big parts of the capital city of Damascus despite being bombed by Assad's military almost every day. Assad has become desperate.

The one thing that might unite the country behind him is an attack by the United States.
