McCain and Graham giving a presser.
They are sounding serious as they return from a briefing with the President. McCain says it would be "catastrophic" if the Congress did not vote with the President. Graham says that for the last two years the President has turned the Syrian situation into a "debacle". They were not overly kind with their words toward the President.
Graham also pointed out that Assad had been getting help from Iran and Russia. He wants to bomb and degrade their chemical weapons system. Both wanted the President to make more than just a "weak" response.
The President cannot accept these conditions that McCain and Graham put forth. They seem to be putting forth another "Iraq-type" solution? The President will not permit that.
Most respectfully, their job is to give a YES or NO if they think Syria has used chemical weapons and the permission to strike Syria for violating international law. However, to attack another country without UN permission is against international law also, if a majority of the nations do not support our effort? It is up to the President to execute the military strategy, not the legislature.
At this time, there does not seem to be much agreement between Obama and the Republicans. Most of the Repubs will vote against it, if it is not a stronger response. They want to "degrade" (the word of the day) Syria's chemical weapons.
