The right wing is astro-turfing photos of soldiers' "objections"

to intervention in Syria. They're all over social media, posted mostly by those who are well-meaning and anti-war.

Have you noticed?

Referring to the president as "Obama". Implying that he wants our troops to fight for AQ. Refusing to deploy. Urging people to "wake up." All the while hiding their faces behind the paper.

Disturbing and disgusting.

didn't want a war, why that would be chicken. And had their best insults out for any soldier who did.

conflated their opinion of the war with the feelings/support of the troops.

If you disagreed with Iraq, you were being mean to the troops and any troops who thought Iraq was a bad idea were just cowards.

Now suddenly, they are willing to forego the coward terminology. And why is that? We know why.

But it's the same when you conflate your opposition with the troops as now being silent and dutiful if they support going.

Plenty of hatred for the troops among the ambivalent and those who do support them -- and that's just a quick 2 links from a single page.

Or how about when that Navy SEAL was killed by the Marine with PTSD and many -- too many -- yucked it with "Live by the sword, die by the sword" comments?

http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1014&pid=389088

Or how about the many here -- too many -- who piss and moan about the "cult of hero worship" that is Memorial Day?

Why should any service member coming to DU feel anything except rejection and ridicule? If there are troops out there saying this is a stupid war that advances Al Qaeda's objectives then they are absolutely right and I support those troops (and even the ones who will dutifully obey).

Ever. Far back as you go, their first names were always President. Nobody said Nixon this or that, or Roosevelt this or that, it was always President Nixon/Roosevelt! The failure to call BO anything other than PBO (gotta laugh when I see it as abbreviations) is entirely a post-2008 product of right-wingers and racist disrespect.

sarcasm in a medium that has never been good for it.

I am mocking those on DU who go nuts whenever someone doesn't call him President, and who make the claim that all previous officeholders were always so called in everyday usage, which of course was never the case.

I never referred to any of them by that honorific. It's absurd in everyday usage and acknowledging some kind of royalty. Fuck that.

I remember my Father referring to Ford, Carter, Reagan, and Bush just like that.

I wasn't old enough to hear him talk about Nixon, sorry. He would watch the televised addresses with the words. "The President is talking." But I'm not sure that the other references were intended to be disrespectful.

Were our chants of Bush Lied and Kids Died intended to be the height of insults? If so we need to work on getting that message across.

I'm sorry, I just don't see the referring to the President by his name alone as so intolerably insulting. Perhaps that's me. Because I thought that Bush Lied Kids Died was accurate, not insulting. Should I change my opinion?
