Ex-heavyweight champion Tommy Morrison dies at 44

Tommy Morrison, the former heavyweight champion who stood toe-to-toe with Lennox Lewis and George Foreman and later tested positive for HIV, died Monday. He was 44.

Morrison died Sunday night at a Nebraska hospital, said Tony Holden, his longtime promoter and close friend. The family would not disclose the cause of death.

He had a heck of a punch and was fun to watch. I worked out with two different guys who fought him. They both said he hit harder than anyone they had ever fought.

John Wayne's family claimed they were not related. If they were, I think it must have been a distant relation.

The nephew, IIRC of John Wayne, alias Marion Morrison. His record was 48-3-1, with 42 by KO.
I liked him. He reminded me of Tex Cobb, just keep wading in, taking punches, trying to land that big right hand.
