All Hail the Masters of War!

Had enough war yet?

All the polls seem to say Americans don't want a strike in Syria.
From what I saw of the hearing, they are pretty much saying "We are going to do this if you like it or not".
The arrogance was stunning.

"Masters Of War"

Come you masters of war
You that build all the guns
You that build the death planes
You that build all the bombs
You that hide behind walls
You that hide behind desks
I just want you to know
I can see through your masks.

You that never done nothin'
But build to destroy
You play with my world
Like it's your little toy
You put a gun in my hand
And you hide from my eyes
And you turn and run farther
When the fast bullets fly.

Like Judas of old
You lie and deceive
A world war can be won
You want me to believe
But I see through your eyes
And I see through your brain
Like I see through the water
That runs down my drain.

You fasten all the triggers
For the others to fire
Then you set back and watch
When the death count gets higher
You hide in your mansion'
As young people's blood
Flows out of their bodies
And is buried in the mud.

You've thrown the worst fear
That can ever be hurled
Fear to bring children
Into the world
For threatening my baby
Unborn and unnamed
You ain't worth the blood
That runs in your veins.

How much do I know
To talk out of turn
You might say that I'm young
You might say I'm unlearned
But there's one thing I know
Though I'm younger than you
That even Jesus would never
Forgive what you do.

Let me ask you one question
Is your money that good
Will it buy you forgiveness
Do you think that it could
I think you will find
When your death takes its toll
All the money you made
Will never buy back your soul.

And I hope that you die
And your death'll come soon
I will follow your casket
In the pale afternoon
And I'll watch while you're lowered
Down to your deathbed
And I'll stand over your grave
'Til I'm sure that you're dead.

... when I found out Dylan wrote this somewhere around 1961. At least JFK showed the world EVIDENCE before the Cuban missile blockade. We aren't getting evidence, we are getting "fuck you, you can't stop us"

...a great album, a mighty record.

Dylan was talking about what JFK was facing. For examples:

Even though they knew their invasion plans were compromised, the CIA and Pentagon tried to force Kennedy to make war over the Bay of Pigs.

While an attack on Soviet missile bases in Cuba and on ships at sea would escalate to nuclear war, the Pentagon and most of the Cabinet tried to force Kennedy to make war, nuclear if necessary -- the Cuban Missile Crisis.

The Pentagon and the Hawks in Congress and his Cabinet recommended war in Vietnam and southeast Asia to stop the spread of Communism, Kennedy sent volunteers -- which he ordered out by the end of 1964 -- but said he would never commit U.S. draftees to fight in another country's civil war, Vietnam.

Most troublesome to me, seeing how the Hawks lied America into invading Iraq twice in the last 22 years, DCI Allen Dulles and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs Lyman Lemnitzer counseled Kennedy to order an all-out nuclear attack on the Soviet Union in Fall of 1963 -- the optimal time for a successful pre-emptive war.

Of course, we all know what happened next.

Arrogance

A drinking game for which you need:-

1) A coin
2) An empty pint glass
3) Any alcoholic beverage
4) Players

You then sit around a table in a large group. The first person must pour an amount of alcohol into a glass, depending on how confident they are that they can predict the outcome of the coin toss and how much they can drink they pour more or less into the glass, hence the name of the game. They must then toss a coin and call heads or tails, if they are correct then the glass is passed to the next person. If they call wrong they have to down the contents of the glass.

Tom: 'I can predict the outcome of a coin toss every time'
Chris: 'Really, you should be good at Arrogance then'
Tom: 'I'm good at everything, me'
Chris: 'Cool'
Tom: 'Right, *pours half litre of vodka into pint glass*, tails never fails, I predict it will be tails' *tosses coin*

*coin lands on heads*

Chris: 'Haha consume you bastard'
