Central Florida Jobs With Justice organized the local Orlando Walmart protest as part of today's nationwide day of action. Seven were arrested doing a civil disobedience blocking the entrance to this Walmart in Orlando near UCF.
Folks pictured here in the blockade were all retaliated against for participating in organizing activity for higher wages and fair labor practices. Their stories are heartbreaking.
The courage it took to do this simply floors me. But here's the thing...we don't have a choice anymore. There's no more wiggle room. We have to change this. Full-time work MUST provide enough to live on. Otherwise we're chattel.
This is our moment. Our Walmart. Our dignity. Fighting. Winning.

(23,756 posts)one of the thin gs we've done is get 12 willing folks to go to Wal Mart load up their shopping carts with stuff from all over the store and go through the check out lane. Just as the checker announces the total, yell real loud: oops I didn't realize I was in SWal Mart, I don't shop at non union businesses and then walk out!
