They seem to be MIA in regards to Syria.

(62,265 posts)Russia vetoes them or they never make it past committee because Russia (and China, following lock-step with Russia) makes it clear it will veto. They wouldn't even allow a resolution to merely condemn Syria for excessive force against civilians (that would be acknowledging there is excessive force being used). China has only vetoed 8 times in its entire history on the UNSC. Four of those times were following Russia's lead. Two of those times were with regards to Syria.

(31,706 posts)...kinda like our dysfunctional congress. Motions pushed forward have been blocked by Russia. Various U.N. agencies have been very involved with Syria...especially the UNHRA...their refugee agency that's currently helping deal with the over 2,000,000 Syrians who have fled the country since the outbreak of hostilities. The U.N. also has been investigating the claims of who has used sarin and/or other chemical weapons in Syria but I suspect even that report will be turned into a political football.

(20,166 posts)United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon is warning world leaders against what he called "ill-considered" military action in Syria, saying it could worsen the country's civil war.
Ban made his comments Friday at a humanitarian meeting on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Russia, where President Barack Obama is trying to win international support for possible military strikes against Syria.
The U.N. chief warned against "further militarization of the conflict," saying that military strikes "could lead to serious and tragic consequences, and with an increased threat of further sectarian violence."

(48,181 posts)Russia is not going to agree to our determination to remove the Assad government so we are going to ignore the UN. They sent inspectors to Syria and will produce a report on that investigation.
