(26,355 posts)Russia wants Syria because it provides them with a Mediterannean naval base for their warships and a warm-water port. So, yeah, they're going to block action against Assad.
Granted, the Syrian rebels are at least as psycho as Assad.
My opinion: Totally not worth it. Provide humanitarian aid, use diplomatic and economic pressure to get the factions to stop using chem-weapons, but aside from that, we shouldn't be spending our blood and treasure in that war.
