(15,689 posts)Still, though they failed to get approval to go war led by a marching band, they may get a war by loophole and contingency clause. A backdoor war. Even Bushler's Iraq War featured 3rd parties on whom responsibility could be alternately foisted and then stripped from. Old version: Uh Oh, the UN inspectors can't make Saddam give up his (nonexistent) weapons, guess this means the "Or Else" clause is now automatically activated.
New version: Uh Oh, the UN inspectors say they can't account for all of Assad's weapons (to our complete satisfaction)- guess this means the "Or Else" clause gets activated... We don't want to go to war mind you, but a contract is a contract and the contingency clause is there in language approved by the Senate, so... bombs away!
