President Barack Obama will give interviews Monday to ABC, NBC, CBS, PBS, CNN and Fox, according to a White House pool report, as he seeks to persuade Congress to approve a U.S. military strike against Syria.
The interviews will be taped in the afternoon and appear in the evening on those channels, per the pool report.
Earlier Saturday, Obama made pressed his case in the White House weekly address, promising that the mission in Syria would not turn into another Iraq or Afghanistan. He vowed that the strikes would be limited and that Bashar al-Assad's regime must be punished for using chemical weapons to murder his own people.
"We cannot turn a blind eye to images like the ones weve seen out of Syria," he said. "Failing to respond to this outrageous attack would increase the risk that chemical weapons could be used again; that they would fall into the hands of terrorists who might use them against us, and it would send a horrible signal to other nations that there would be no consequences for their use of these weapons. All of which would pose a serious threat to our national security."

Published: October 17, 2008
ORLANDO, Fla. (AdAge.com) -- Just weeks before he demonstrates whether his campaign's blend of grass-roots appeal and big media-budget know-how has converted the American electorate, Sen. Barack Obama has shown he's already won over the nation's brand builders. He's been named Advertising Age's marketer of the year for 2008.
Mr. Obama won the vote of hundreds of marketers, agency heads and marketing-services vendors gathered here at the Association of National Advertisers' annual conference. He edged out runners-up Apple and Zappos.com. The rest of the shortlist, selected by Ad Age's editorial staff, was rounded out by megabrand Nike, turnaround story Coors and Mr. Obama's rival, Sen. John McCain.

The campaign that drove Barack Obama to victory in the US presidential election has claimed two top awards at the Cannes Lions International Advertising Awards.
The campaign, submitted by Obama for America, has been hailed as a masterful combination of new media, door-to-door and community grass roots campaigning with a clever tactical use of traditional TV advertising.
The campaign won two grands prix in the Titanium and Integrated Lions categories.

(3,539 posts)overwhelming support for this war and clearchannel radio stations began playing the national anthem every hour on the hour.
Surely next we shall see an elephant fly, chickens will have teeth and bullfrogs will grow........
Then and again this whole mess is getting weird with doves turning into hawks and groups signing up to be human shields.
Not to mention republicans suddenly becoming anti war and the Russians wanting to send a delegation to talk us out of it.
And we haven't even fired the first cruise missile at the southern most part of a north bound camel.
I got a feeling this is going to be a long strange ride.

(31,706 posts)...without the support of other allies, the resistance to this intervention...no matter how "noble"...there won't be the votes. It's understandable that a war-weary country doesn't want to get entangled in a proxy war and I support that position. The U.S. has no dog in that hunt...in a country the U.S. has had little diplomatic and cultural ties and that's there's no clear pro-democratic option in this mess. It's taken over 100,000 lives so far and surely many more will perish until this mess sorts itself out.
What's the real shame is how other countries are willing to sit back and allow the use of chemical weapons (and I don't give a shit whose using them...they're being used). Shame on the Russians who bankroll Assad with money and weapons and the Saudis and Iranians who also are using this country for their own games and not exerting any pressure on the belligerents to negotiate some kind of settlement.
I don't see President Obama winning this vote and the war and genocide will go on...
