I hope Obama wins the Congressional vote and then

uses that authority to strengthen his position in some negotiation to achieve a cease-fire, UN peacekeeping regime, major disarmament and the slow establishment of secular democratic institutions. (As opposed to "one man, one vote, one time" rushed elections.)

I said "hope."

Unfortunately, in terms of "rationally expect" I don't see any outcome that does not either lead to some level of military intervention, or effectively end Obama's presidency (lamest of lame ducks), or both.

It is a very sad situation, and with so many unforced errors.

the resolution. Unfortunately, he started "bombing Iraq into peace" right away. I hope that will not be the case this time.

It's not about Syria, sarin gas, innocents killed, or Assad. It's now about Obama's 'credibility' ie, about him looking tough. He wants to look tough. Of course he will cave to the goopers on something else, Social Security, Health Care, Education, Infrastructure or something actually important to the American People.
