Unless the Democrats can't tie their own shoes, then they're going to pick up a seat in Maine.
POLL: Will Olympia Snowe's senate seat be filled by a Democrat?
Vote: http://www.wepolls.com/p/8015094
I don't know a lot about Maine politics. Anyone know who the frontrunners would be?

(30,252 posts)The Dems make so many mistakes in 2010 that the Tea Party just marched in and took over.
I hope Snowe gets replaced by a Dem, but the right kind of Dem - not just someone with a "D" next to their name.

(37,540 posts)Maine is a microcosm of the entire country. The vast rural areas are deeply red. The "coast" and big population centers are deeply blue. But this race will be a referendum on the republican vs. Democratic vision and the Republicans have done nothing to endear the voters here to their side. We have a teabagger governor who got elected because the Democrat and Independent split 68% of the vote. With a Presidential election on the line, I think we win this seat on Obama's coat tails....unless another Indiependent gets in to split the blue vote.

(37,540 posts)I suspect that the Democratic field will completely be reconsidered with this news. Barry Hobbins, the State Senate Minority leader might play...personally, I'd love to see Janet Mills run...she's was the AG for Baldacci...she's from the rural 2nd district and has won elections for State Rep in deeply red area of Maine. She's a great campaigner and she's fired up about the recent republican moves to limit the rights of women's reproductive decisions. She'd be a great Senator for us in Congress.
