Italian journalist freed after five month captivity in Syria

I haven't seen much US media coverage of this story. Domenico Quirico, a war correspondent for La Stampa, was released after being imprisoned since April. He has been flow home to Italy and laned in Rome just a few hours ago. In June I attended a play at a high school in Alba, Italy. All of the performers were wearing yellow ribbons. The principal, a good friend of mine, explained that Quirico's daughter was one of his students and the ribbons were in support of her and her family.

It appears that he was held by the Syrian opposition. Some statements that have been attributed to Quirico since his release indicate that the Syrian resistance has morphed into something pretty ugly. We should hear him out before taking military action.

My husband is an Italian Ex Pat and we are familiar with this. We are so glad he's safe. It will be interesting to get his insight.

Now what is interesting is that US senate foreign relations committee, including my own Sen. Barbara Boxer, endorsed "changing battlefield momentum" in favor of these forces. Why would she want that?

I don't think that these people realize that by voting for this, they are staining their records big time with a very significant section of the Democratic coalition.
