Elizabeth Warren (correctly) Slams USSC for being "wholly owned subsidiary of big business"

LOS ANGELES – Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren and AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka denounced the United States Supreme Court on Sunday as a right-wing panel that serves the interests of corporate America, previewing a theme that is likely to rise in prominence with the approach of the 2016 election.

On the opening day of the AFL-CIO’s convention, Warren – the highest-profile national Democrat to address the gathering here – warned attendees of a “corporate capture of the federal courts.”

In a speech that voiced a range of widely held frustrations on the left, Warren assailed the Court as an instrument of the wealthy that regularly sides with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. She cited an academic study that called the current Supreme Court’s five conservative-leaning justices among the “top 10 most pro-corporate justices in half a century.”

You follow this pro-corporate trend to its logical conclusion, and sooner or later you’ll end up with a Supreme Court that functions as a wholly owned subsidiary of big business,” Warren said, drawing murmurs from the crowd.

She also slammed the big banks and their army of lobbyists...

call a spade a spade. We've had years of those fence-sitting so-called Democratic
politicians who seem to be afraid of their own shadows, and the Right-Wingers have
only gotten stronger during this time, despite the fact that they have never offered
any proposals to better the lot of the American people. All they do is to block and
destroy whatever the Democrats are trying to do for our nation.

These Ghoulish Odious Parasites (GOP) have never made any proposals because they
have nothing to offer but misery and death. They are too busy making money flow
into their own pockets through all means fair and foul, including preying upon their
own poor and elderly fellow-Americans at every opportunity possible. They are too
busy thinking of their ghoulish profits to care about anybody else.

Warren drew some of the loudest applause of her precisely worded, sharply enunciated speech with a statement of skepticism about upcoming trade deals – debates that may pit big labor and liberal members of the Senate against the Obama administration.

“Wall Street, pharmaceuticals, telecom, big polluters and outsourcers are all salivating at the chance to rig upcoming trade deals in their favor,” Warren said. “I’ve heard people actually say that [trade deals] have to be secret because if the American people knew what was going on, they would be opposed.”

She continued: “I believe that if people would be opposed to a particular trade agreement, then that trade agreement should not happen.”

Even the so-called "left" justicies are a far cry from those that ruled against "the state" and for "individual's civil rights" over and over in the 1970s. It was those rulings that ticked off the Elites, such that they pushed the no-privacy "abortion-wedge Right" and pro-prison "law-and-order Dems" to generate the rubber-stamp crowd we have now.

If there is any way - and at the moment I am not sanguine about the prospects, as the DLC has infected the party, perhaps irreparably - to save the Democratic Party, it will be people like Elizabeth Warren and those who share her outlook that will do it.

Unfortunately, the party establishment is so obsessed with "electability," "triangulation" and "centrism" that Senator Warren's views don't get much of an airing.

The Founding Fathers believed that by making life time appointments that the judges would be not be affected by politics would be free to make objective impartial decisions. Unfortunately, this has not proved to be the case. This should be totally reviewed and in my estimation the appointments should only be for a limited time or at least subject to periodic review. At the present a number of decisions are an outright scandal for their blatant partisan determinations.
