Democratic Rep. Alan Grayson doesn't think that President Barack Obama will get 100 votes in favor of his plan for military strikes in Syria even after the public-relations blitz Obama will put on over the next two days.
"If you do the math, what you're seeing is that Democrats are 2-to-1 or 3-to-1 against among those who have already declared," Grayson (D-Fla.) said in an interview with Business Insider.
"That will remain true. The Republicans are more than 10-to-1 against. I think that will remain true. Project it out by party, and you'll see that the President is going to have to struggle to get to 100 votes here."
Grayson, who re-entered Congress this year for a second term after losing re-election in 2010, has become a leading force in what has been heavy Democratic opposition to Obama's plan for intervention in Syria.

(10,622 posts)So the only thing surprising about it is that it usually matters very little to congress critters what those that vote for them want or think. The numbers in favor of the bank bailouts were as infinitesimal small as the will of the people to go to war and yet none of them batted an eye in voting to pay off the big banks for committing a very fine destruction of the economy.
A more recent case that shows it's unusual for them to listen to their constituents were the votes on gun control, the numbers tallied from calls and letters were not as starkly one sided by still showed a large majority of people that wanted gun control and were ignored.
It is a bit puzzling why they would deign to listen to their "lessers" now but such a thing is a good development no matter how strange an occurrence IMO.

(6,960 posts)We don't want anymore war.
We are sick of all the money going to the Pentagon.
We are tired of being trampled upon by corporate banks and health insurance companies.
We need a leader to at least give a passionate voice to our frustrations and anger over our deteriorating economic circumstances.
We don't want a President banging any war drums.
Will Pres. Obama hear us?
