Will they admit Obama played this well? That the threat of force was used judiciously to precipate a Diplomatic solution?
Or will they hail Putin and Russia as the heroes despite the "Warmonger" Obama?
Will they ignore what may ultimately turn out be a brilliantly played diplomatic coup and pretend it didn't happen?
Now, the latest revelations that Russia is calling on Syria to give up is CW's could lead nowhere, and we may end up getting involved militarily, but I think it's certainly an indication that there's more going on behind the scenes than we are privy to, and that perhaps a threat of force, used judiciously, is an effective diplomatic tool, if used wisely.
Thankfully, I believe we have leaders, like Obama and Kerry, who use threats of force wisely, and will, I believe, pull back from the brink if there is reasonable progress.

(45,274 posts)and leave the whole business of attribution up in the air where it belongs. There are just too many players, and too many potentially catastrophic (and perhaps necessary) risks being taken, for any single person or policy to carry the whole weight of praise or blame.
For one thing, how do you distinguish a brilliant diplomatic coup from a change of course necessitated by a worldwide revulsion on the part of the common people against another war?

How about everything worked...why does credit have to be given to any one person or organization?
Why not just accept the fact that it was a combination of many efforts to avoid a regional conflict?

(114,904 posts)credit the President with "playing this well". It's been weeks of this issue overshadowing other compelling issues. It's strained U.S. relationships. In other words, it's been a mess and that will still be true even if the U.S. doesn't strike Syria.
In any case, your op is full of ridiculous and false claims.
No one here has "hailed Putin and Russia as heroes" in regards to this.
As for that lying asshole John Kerry, he's an embarrassment.

(30,481 posts)What would you like the people who are against a strike in Syria to do, sit there and shut up. Launching missiles is truly a death sentence for many and an international game-changer all in the name of American Citizens. With the rhetoric coming from the White House those opposing this should be "screaming". Your op is truly offensive and shows your inability to differentiate between personalities and blowing people to smithereens with no clear objective.

If the Syrian issue is resolved, my guess is that it will not take long for Obama to defend NSA again in a statement or for Greenwald to write another article or for Obama to refuse Manning's pardon request or for Obama to offer another cut to social security and thus for GD to be, once again, filled with posts declaring the absolute perfidity of Obama and the Democratic Party smattered with a few feeble attempts by boggers to spin the latest outrage.
Wash, rinse, repeat.

(34,648 posts)They have plenty of things to hate about Obama. Everything is his fault. He ruined America. Obamacare isn't exactly what they want. He won't be doing something fast enough. Or nuanced enough. Or use the bully pulpit to force congress to do something or other. He killed baby Jesus. And smiles too much. He evolves. He pre killed the economy. Before he was president. He also didn't invite them to the killer parties he throws with jay-z and Beyonce. He doesn't read their minds so that he knows exactly what they want to hear. They miss Bush.

Nobody is going to give Obama credit for a brilliant multi-dimensional chess move. We'll say he was forced to save his ass (and his country's) any way he could. I think he deserves impeachment even if we avoid military involvement is Syria.

(10,362 posts)Yeah, backing yourself into a corner with this red line BS, then having to backtrack and taking a political beating in the process, that's well played.

(31,811 posts)I'm already seeing it on another thread. . . They seriously think anyone is better than Obama and ALL have a moral high ground that Mr. Dreg (Obama) of Society can only hope to obtain.
Don't recall reading anything here that would be considered warmongering....that includes Obama's stand on Syria. I think solving this thru diplomacy is a win win for everyone....DIPLOMACY is what it is, a true political way of solving issues, what sucks is the dog and pony show to get there.
Bluenorthwest
(45,319 posts)The people who have called for war that is rejected soundly by the majority will continue to lose standing. That's another victory for reason and diplomacy.

(13,598 posts)Obama has actively tried to persuade the US to bomb Syria.
If that's the wrong decision - and I think it probably is - then if he fails, that just makes him inept as well as wrong.
I don't for a minute think that he's playing three dimensional chess; I think he genuinely wants to attack Assad's military, and if he fails to persuade Congress to do so then I will credit Congress for that, not him.
