Boston airport apologizes for fire drill on 9/11 anniversary after smoke, flames rise from a runway

BOSTON (AP) — Officials at Boston's Logan International Airport are apologizing for holding a fire drill, complete with smoke and flames, on the 12th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

The two hijacked jets that were flown into the World Trade Center towers flew out of Logan.

The runway fire drill, announced on the airport's Facebook page, drew harsh condemnation on social media sites.

The Massachusetts Port Authority, the agency that runs the airport, said in a statement that it "apologizes for conducting the fire training exercise and understands that it may have offended many of those touched by the events of Sept. 11."

Several events were held at the airport to mark the anniversary.

whoever arranged it in the first place needs to buy a few more brain cells. Sheesh, what a dumb fucking thing to do, not to mention damned insensitive. Almost as bad as the idiot golf course in Wisconsin that was offering a "nine holes for $9.11" promotion on, yep, 9/11, and had to close today because of the understandable negative reaction.

Are we now getting far enough away from the event itself so that such insensitivity will start becoming more common? It's beginning to look that way, and it happens with almost all historic events, no matter how traumatic and tragic. It sure didn't seem to take long with the OK City bombing (many kids and teens I know haven't even heard of it at all, for God's sake), and now it seems to be happening even with 9/11.

It's as bad as Kerry meeting with Henry Kissinger today on "9/11" to discuss Syria.. "9/11" being so important for what happened in Chile on that day 40 years ago.
