The GOP is perfectly willing to turn the country over to theocracy as long as the GOP and its corporate masters stay in power. That is why the GOP is so married to the religious fanatic class in this country. Calling these religious tyrants the American Taliban is perfectly appropriate because they want a Bible based family values government. They hate science and everything that is secular.
They would be perfectly fine with federally mandated Christian prayer and obligatory church on Sunday. And their stench influences just about everything political today. The war on women begins with the pastors of these right wing churches that believe that a woman's only place is in the home and in the kitchen who must obey their husbands even to the point of voting like the head of household.
Many countries are divided by religious strife. Today we are divided by religion as much as anything and we have political strife as well. The saying that "religion is the opiate of the people" is so appropriate today. Never before has religion and the churches been so influential in dictating legislation at the state level. Their focus has been on reproductive rights for the most part now. It is what they have in store for the nation given power that will be the real surprise.
Now I understand why the Romans fed Christians to the lions. Too bad they did not succeed in the end.

(30,058 posts)of our churches, there is something wrong with their training and what Jesus taught. It is the American Taliban, they don't see this. I know many family members who votes only on the fact a candidate says they are against abortion, doesn't matter what other issues standings. I don't see how they can be against abortion and then work so hard against helping those parents in providing shelter food and education for the children they want forced births. Thanks for your post, this has been my thinking for some time now.

Thanks for your post.

(13,460 posts)They are not in favor of freedom in any way. I read an article by one of these groups online today saying it is basically sinful for young women to go to college.

(11,804 posts)I gather it is how many people feel, and I think we are talking about history rather than current events. But its certainly possible to read that as you thinking it might be a good idea to feed Christians to the lions today.
