The peculiar Vice of both "sides" is looking for Heroes and Champions

There is a deep human desire to exist within an authoritarian hierarchy. We are eager, as creatures, to stand with someONE, more than with someTHING.

This mattered a great deal, at one time, to our tribe's survival versus other tribes.

But one would hope that in the 21st century we would eventually, somehow, get to ideas.

America is better than Russia in that though we both have leaders whose shirtless pictures have been adored by sycophantic hero-worshipers, Russia is worse about it.

In a democracy, we're supposed to hire public servants, not "leaders". Tierra_y_Libertad Sep 2013 #1
