Man Accused of Lying to 911 Mocks Deputies About Doughnuts, Urinates in Sheriff’s Office

A South Florida man was arrested after he lied to a 911 operator about having a machine gun, mocked the responding deputies by asking them if he had interrupted their doughnut break and said he was going to blow up a sheriff substation, authorities said.

Matthew Murphy, 46, who was on probation, returned to jail Sunday and faces charges of assault, misuse of 911, violation of probation and corruption of a public servant by threat, his Broward Sheriff's Office arrest report said. Deputies said he appeared to be drunk, according to the report.

Murphy called 911 from his Pembroke Park home, saying that his roommate had touched his girlfriend and wanted him removed, the report said. In a second call, he told the 911 operator that the roommate had a machine gun and said deputies “better hurry up,” the report said.

When deputies arrived and asked about the gun, Murphy responded, “I think he has one but I’m not sure, I got you here didn’t I,” according to the arrest report.

Then Murphy said he had never seen a gun and asked the deputies, "Did I interrupt you from your donuts?" the report said.
