try to sanitize our subjects by channeling their essences (as in the OP), or having them say what they would say if they thought tohey could get away with it.

The OP was based only on the police chief's recent comments. The rest is fiction. (But, in essence, is it? Based on his current activity, I'm afraid this young man is ready to do something very destructive.)
