Many Americans are still struggling to put food on the table, a full four years after the global recession ended, a new poll by Gallup shows.
Indeed 20 percent of people polled last month said that they sometimes didnt have enough money to buy food for themselves or their family, the highest percentage since 2011.
The poll indicates that Americans' ability to afford food has yet to recover to the levels seen in 2008, when the United States was in one of deepest economic slumps since the Great Depression of the 1930s.
The percentage of Americans going hungry peaked at 20.4 percent in November 2008 during the global economic crisis, according to Gallup's poll.

Barack Obama! Barack Obama! Barack Obama! WooHoo!
You know maybe one less fta and ttp per year might help, if someone could wrestle the fucking pen from his hand.

PS.. I know some of these people personally, and there's not a damn thing I can do for them cause I'm close to being where they are. It's heartbreaking.

(39,909 posts)When we have surplus, we donate to the "Free Store" in Hatfield, Arkansas.
The lines out front on "Food Day" are getting longer,
and the despair in the eyes of people who have worked HARD all their lives is getting deeper.
We bring our surplus there because we are just one crisis away from standing in that line too.

PS. Once we get our garden going (should be next year), we're going to share the bounty and I think there are people in our cul de sac whom feel the same way. It's a good thing.

(39,909 posts)I'm an Optimist by nature,
but it is difficult to see anything GOOD for the Working Class & Poor coming our way in the near future.
We need to take care of each other,
and in our case, it really is Paying it Forward.
Like most people living in America today, we are ONE unexpected crisis from standing in that line.
"We didn't cut those programs that help the Working Class & Poor.
The SEQUESTER did it!!!"

(6,323 posts)We lost our loved one a couple months ago and couldn't stop crying for at least 3 to 4 days after. She was the sweetest and your right, I would do anything for my dog. And we did, on her last days she couldn't walk so we rolled her onto a blanket and moved her around where she needed to be. On her last night we moved her close to us and I will never forget her loving kisses as we sat together as usual on the couch that night. She was our first baby.
crap now both eyes are streaming
Your the best Safetykitten. We need more of you.

(23,272 posts)The US needs to be getting its own house in order - helping the social safety net, repairing our infrastructure, investing in educating our kids, designing and implementing a health CARE system that reaches everyone etc etc etc
My priorities on how the US needs to spend our dollars is SOOOO different than the PTB .

(39,909 posts)Its NOT our Politicians and elected "representatives"

Its not THEIR fault.
Its The SEQUESTER that is doing it!!!
Nothing we can do about THAT.
Its like SUPERMAN on STEROIDS,
and (funny thing) NOBODY in Washington WANTED it,

(20,899 posts)bulging coffers for the uber-wealthy, large corporations, and the MIC, coupled with gut-wrenching unemployment, under-employment, starving wages for tens of millions of America, and countless millions of hungry Americans, to wit: a national tragedy foisted upon the American people by the three major branches of government in cahoots with their corporate partners in shame? Let the deification of the gipper proceed in all due haste.
