Nixon's Plan For Health Reform, In His Own Words

I was going through and cleaning out some favorites in another browser and found this.

http://www.kaiserhealthnews.org/Stories/2009/September/03/nixon-proposal.aspx

I have never been a big Nixon fan but this sounds familiar. Of course with the SOB's in Congress now, it wouldn't stand a snowballs chance of passing.

Some of the costs mentioned made me think how much the bill was when my first son was born in 1974.

$289 after insurance.

Who knew Nixon was a BIG OL' SOCIALIST!!!

if he wasn't such a paranoid, crooked scumbag he could have been one of our greatest Presidents.

something like it already passed. The ACA. All about making sure people have insurance.

Which plan do you think is better? Obamacare, or Nixoncare?

What chance would it have of passing this CONgress?

It's so disgusting what the republicans have become.

And disheartening what has seemed to have happened to the democrats.

But I think Obamacare has a good chance of being upgraded to a better system. If the political climate can be changed.

Nixon's plan didn't really have a chance. It tried to be too all encompassing. It probably would have been chopped up like Obamacare was. Who knows? If some sort of health care reform had happened then, maybe by now we would be on par with the rest of the world when it comes to health care.

As for your question.

Nixoncare...as it was written. But, like I said about what would have actually passed.

he, and subsequent presidents, could have kept it on the table and brought it back year after year until it could be passed.

I'm not confident about that "upgrade." Both of those systems were founded on private, for-profit insurance. That's the wrong foundation for upgrading to a better system. It doesn't do any good to play the "what if" game, but...if we hadn't rebelled and fought the Revolutionary War, we'd have had national health care long since.

If Nixon hadn't been a crook, we might have avoided Ronald Reagan all together, and the nation would be better in every arena.

It's a sad era when Tricky Dick is a better liberal than most elected Democrats.

Instead of a single payer plan or a public option we got a private insurance mandate.

Awesome!

You know.

When President Obama isn't a Nazi, Kenyan, illegal immigrant with a fake birth certificate...

He's a socialist commie.

Fact and fiction does seem to blur when it comes to most republicans.

I've gotten into the habit of explaining myself when it comes to talking to my conservative friends and relatives. For all the good it does.

And they don't seem to get sarcasm.
