If the public had not strongly opposed attacking Syria - an American led attack of cruise missiles would have already happened a couple weeks ago

If the public had not strongly opposed attacking Syria - there would have been little difference because the Obama Administration was already working behind the scenes to negotiate a political solution – planning all along to avoid a military strike.

If the public had not strongly opposed attacking Syria - we would have been deeply involved in major military operations in Syria months ago far more extensive than a series of cruise missile strikes lasting only a few days.

(2,770 posts)those here who'd already banked on having a war to pillory Obama with on a daily basis.
A lot of them are royally pissed, too.

(24,692 posts)who opposed authorization almost unanimously. We can question their motives, but the "chickenhawks, conservatives and warmongers" (not to mention the MIC) will find little comfort in that nuance. This sows that much more discord in the republican party between the corporate wing ang the tea party wing.

(2,770 posts)and truly questionable, about people who do nothing but spew anti-Obama rhetoric day after day, who then want to step up and take credit for his achievements.
One day he's an arrogant, self-serving warmonger, who will not let anything stand between him and his overwhelming desire to have 'his own war'.
The next day, he's a spineless weakling who was pulled back from his crazed blood-lust by a bunch of people who posted their disapproval on a message board.
If Obama were the former, no amount of signatures on a petition would have stopped him.
If he were the latter, he wouldn't have rattled his saber in the first place, being too much a 'spineless weakling' to do so.

(68,644 posts)...because Obama listens to us.
And now for something completely different:
Summer Hathaway
(2,770 posts)he's only interested in his 'legacy' in his second term, posing for the lens of history's camera, laying low so nothing can mar the shiny image he wants to be remembered by.
The next minute, he's decided that his 'legacy' should be to launch an unwinnable war that will soon turn into the quagmire that was Iraq - 'cause that'll look GREAT in the history books!

(2,770 posts)I don't take anything as gospel until I hear it from Michelle Catalano's mouth.
She was the one who offered PROOF!!! that the NSA was following everyone's every web browsing keystroke.
I think she might have broken the "Obama Takes Unprecedented Move and Re-Names May 1st as Loyalty Day" story, too - but I could have that wrong.

(36,076 posts)There's something disturbing and truly questionable about people who can't bear to have the spotlight taken off Obama for more than 2 seconds
Summer Hathaway
(2,770 posts)about people who think other people can't bear to have the "spotlight" taken off Obama.
It's actually rather paranoid thinking, in a Walking Dead kind of way.
Obama supporters aren't interested in Obama having the "spotlight". They're interested in the fact that when he accomplishes something (which he often does), the "spotlight" shouldn't be shone on people who don't deserve credit for a god-damned thing.

(7,099 posts)Thinking their voices matter to their government; to the President even! Fucking peasants, thinking that they actually have a role in what their government does, and that Obama would ever condescend to listen to these peons' overwhelming opinion on massively important policy commitments. It's disturbing, like you said. Makes me want to right barf.

(2,770 posts)Obama NEVER listens to "the People".
That's one of the many things they hate about him most - he NEVER listens!
Except when he does something they've said they wanted all along - then, suddenly - MIRACULOUSLY! - he only did it because he LISTENED TO THE PEOPLE.

(12,958 posts)Is that somehow better? Why don't you engage them on an intellectual level instead of lashing out at them? You might get a better result.

(2,770 posts)better or otherwise.
