Be proud, America. We have officially gone around the bend with our gun fetish.

I'm watching coverage of the Washington Navy yard shooting on CNN, and they just interviewed a guy who runs a company called "Move2Safety." The sole purpose of the company is to train people how to react in the event of an active shooter.

From their website: "Created in 2008, Move2Safety was founded to teach people to escape workplace and school shootings and to rely on themselves in emergency situations."

So there you have it, America. Thanks to our deranged gun fetish, there is now a cottage industry designed specifically to train us how to survive our deranged gun fetish. Because freedom and shit.

Be proud.

How does one get a refund? By returning a bullet-riddled blood-soaked vest?

I remember the early 1960s, when we had drills in school to prepare for possible nuclear bombs. We lined up, went in the hallway, sat down and covered our heads with our arms. But it didn't seem that real to us. For one thing, we weren't seeing images of bombed schools on television.

Kids today can actually see or hear news reports about kids being shot in schools. I don't know how they cope with the inevitable nightmares.

the last one they did at the high school, they failed. They heard some kind of signal and everyone marched outside, orderly and fast.

"Why did it fail?" I asked my son.

He replied, "Because it was a tornado drill and we all went outside!"

Lock down, tornado, fire, yada yada yada

Sounds more like hustlers trying to make a buck off of all the fear and hype. Other people's fear can mean big $$ if you approach it the right way.

Your chances of getting caught up in a mass shooting are tiny. It's no different than the people who sell overpriced prepper stuff to those afraid of the coming Obamapocalypse.

There's always going to be somebody trying to make a dollar off of anything.

Next will be "bullet proof" inflatable bubbles when high tech finally surpasses the simple kevlar backpacks and hand-held shields,,,

So nice that there is such profit from human carnage

is also taught to schools by police. There are two other similar programs. At least someone is trying to come up with mays of mitigating the slaughter in these horrible school, mall, and now, Navy Yard shooting.

If you do not have a plan, you are doomed to fail in your response.
