Americans OPPOSE War+APPLAUD Obama's Decision To Pursue Diplomacy By Overwhelming Margin 67-23 (PEW)

* A new Pew poll finds Americans approve of Obama’s decision to delay military strikes to pursue diplomacy by an overwhelming margin, 67-23. And this is key:

Overall, more Americans (49%) say that in handling the situation in Syria, Obama has shown leadership and a willingness to adapt to changing circumstances. Fewer (35%) say he’s shown weakness and inconsistency.

As I suspected, Americans oppose war, and if it’s averted, the public will applaud, not see it through the Beltway punditry’s consistency-equals-strength prism.

I just don't understand their mindset. Why would they want to "stay the course," despite new information and options, when it comes to something as important as military intervention?

It's a decline, but at least Russia can claim to be more popular that the Republican Congress.

To say nothing of Putin stepping in with a diplomatic solution. Other wise, we'd be in the first steps of WWIII. We really do not want to bomb Syria or Iran. NO, we really do not.

chemical weapons (43% favor/43% oppose). About half of Republicans and independents (51% each) oppose the use of airstrikes if Syria fails to relinquish control of its chemical weapons; smaller percentages (34% of Republicans, 37% of independents) favor the use of airstrikes under this circumstance. There is somewhat more support for military airstrikes among all three groups if Syria does not give up control of chemical weapons than there was a week ago, when the prospect of a failed diplomatic solution was not raised.
