as opposed to a party that lies to everyone for money and votes, and then screws up the country for their own small benefit.

I wouldn't take the bet... the NRA has just under 2.5% African-American membership. Anyways, they do well enough with their own madmen.

On edit: meant to reply to post above yours. Oh well, perfection is over-rated.

I think that as long as we live in a country which places a greater priority on affordability and ease of access to firearms than on affordability and ease of access to healthcare; and a corporate structure which attempts to allow even more convenience to the one, whilst placing ever more obstacles to other, we're simply and little more than a very-rich banana republic.

9. It shows that background checks work only as well

As the system that feeds info into them.

If DA's let prior offenses go uncharged or dropped to minor offenses, the system fails.

If people know someone is mentally unstable, including police who encounter them, and don't do anything than all the background checks in the world won't matter.

And if we continue to not prosecute people who attempt to buy and get denied we are taking a golden opportunity to clamp down on people who are not supposed to have guns and are seeking them. I find it insane that when a person attempts to buy a gun and gets tuned down there is absolutely zero follow up, even to investigate what they are up to, despite them having committed a felony when they filled the form out claiming to be eligible.

For both CCW permits and for regular gun sale background checks (which should be universal), properly controlled access top mental health records needs to happen, ASAP.
