Even in the wake of the latest mass shooting...

Really, would any new laws or regulations actually do anything to stop these mass shootings?

I mean, the guns like the AR-15 are out there.

Do we want a government agency like the ATF, searching house to house for any and all assault rifles?

And has been pointed out, assault rifles kill or wound very few people, compared to handguns.

If every AR-15 was made illegal tomorrow, why bother going "house to house" to collect them? Robb Sep 2013 #4

Gun sales are the choke point.

Long waiting periods. Extensive background checks.

Frequently inspections and logging of All activity at gun stores.

Shutting down of gun shows. Make private sales illegal without government approval.

Want to sell your personal gun? Fill out a form and follow the rules.

I would add a billion dollars a year to the ATF's budget if I could.

That of course earns me lots of scorn and derision here on DU, but since the gun apologists all assume that the teensiest little gun regulation is just the beginning of the plan to confiscate their guns, I say, why disappoint them?

We didn't go door-to-door in this country the day after heroin was made illegal looking for heroin.

When someone is caught smuggling heroin, their heroin is taken away because it is illegal to possess and distribute heroin.
