Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsA Challenge: Go to your local craigslist, and type in "GUNS" (in the For Sale section)
Then come back and report here how many people were willing to either SELL or TRADE guns or ammunition.
Bonus fun: how many of those people will be doing a "background check" do you think?
Congratulations - you have just discovered how easy it is to get a gun in your neighborhood.
Feel safer?

NB: As I have said until I'm blue in the face, I support expanding California laws to the other 49 states.
But nobody listens, they prefer juvenile name calling....
Example:
9MM
GREAT CONDITION
2 MAGS
MAG POUCH
STAINLESS SLIDE
ASKING $425 FIRM
EMAIL ME IF INTERESTED
MUST GO THRU FFL DEALER SORRY NO EXCEPTIONS
PLEASE DONT EMAIL ME IF YOU ARE NOT WILLING TO GO TO FFL DEALER. IM LEGAL AND IM EXPECTING THE SAME FROM YOU. THANKS
Reason:
Since 1991, substantially all firearms transfers are required to use a California-licensed FFL. There are no legal 'paperless' or 'face to face' handgun transfers, and just a few ways to do FTF with long guns.
Unless you are exempt, there will be a 10-day wait from submitting the DROS until you may legally pick up your purchase.
Unless you are exempt, or purchasing a handgun via Private Party Transfer, you may purchase only one handgun in 30 days.
In both cases, the time of the waiting period begins at the time the DROS is submitted to the state.

(26,602 posts)was one fairly entertaining estate sale with a pair of what looked like antique rifles or shotguns - no details or mention of a BGC in that one...

(7,720 posts)I went to Armslist for the second time. There are a lot of guns for sale, but I didn't see a single assault rifle for sale.

(10,362 posts)but it didn't take me a minute to find this one

Of course, I looked in Alabama to maximize my chances of finding one lol

(7,720 posts)a whole gun, it still is not an assault rifle. By definition an assault rifle is capable of full-auto operation.

(7,720 posts)Minnesota has a long history of hunting and hunting and fishing are even protected activities in our state constitution. Democratic candidates have in the past lost elections because of their anti-RKBA views. Even with all of that, I found not a single gun for sale on Craigslist just now. There was one guy who wanted to trade his website development services for guns and another guy who is a gunsmith who was looking to repair guns, I saw a few magazines for sale, but no actual guns on the first two pages going back over a week. I then did the same search using the word 'gun' and had similar results.
If the point of this thread is to determine the number of guns for sale on Craigslist, the answer is ZERO.

(7,720 posts)There is a lot of cool stuff on that list, from boats to ATVs, tractors to motorcycles, but no guns.

(7,720 posts)Hyperbole on your part is not necessary, 'every one' was not asking for guns in trade.
That sure is not a very efficient way to acquire a gun. If we need to crack down on criminals getting guns, there are many more areas to crack down on rather than 'things that go bang' on Craigslist.

(39,665 posts)The last two bikes I sold took about three weeks to sell -- they were good bikes, priced fair.
I could have "sold" either in equal value trade for firearms in less than a week, and taken my pick of offers. There is much of this out there, and has been for years.

(7,720 posts)I have purchased a few things, none of them were guns.

(18,101 posts)one never knows if it's a cop on the other end of the transaction. That's how they popped a local priest for propositioning a minor for prostitution a few years back. They found a bunch of kiddy porn on his computer, also.

(39,171 posts)Your links are not an indication of illegal activity.
How do you think UBCs will work for private sales? Are you proposing banning private sales? I don't understand your point

(2,667 posts)I could buy two dozen guns any sunday morning I wanted to. Most of them would be pretty nice rifles or junk pistols with a lot of mass produced/marketed shotguns (Montgomery Wards, Sears) tossed in as well.
