He then said that he believed the man he'd argued with "sent three people to follow him and keep him awake by talking to him and sending vibrations into his body," according to the report. Alexis said he believed that the group consisted of two black males and one black female.
According to the report, he said they had followed him to three different places first the Residence Inn in Middletown, R.I., then at a hotel on the Navy base in Newport, and finally to the Marriott. He said that the individuals spoke to him both through the floor and the ceiling, and that they were using "some sort of microwave machine" to send vibrations through his body.
He told police that he did not have a history of mental illness and that he has "never had this sort of mental episode," according to the report.
Alexis told the officers that he was a naval contractor. In the report, Sgt. Frank C. Rosa, Jr., said he followed up and made contact with on-duty Naval Station Police.

Couldn't he have used a car, a swimming pool, or a baseball bat?

(37,748 posts)I think a lot of people get offended when we refer to a "car crash" rather than the more accurate (and more petulant) "eight-cylinder, duel-tank, Ford F-150 pick-up truck crash" depending on the vehicles involved.
But yeah... the NRA is great at focusing on the irrelevancies-- as it helps deflect attention from the actual problems.

(35,062 posts)I think that was the same thing with Adam Lanza and what we ALL need to remember as well, most people with mental illness recognize it or seek treatment, he thought there was nothing unusual going on in his head at all.
We can't get rid of mental illness, but we can get rid of the stigma associated with it, and the stigma associated with treatment as well.

I suppose we should take AR-15s away from first responders so that AR-15s don't fall into the hands of deranged madmen who ambush them.

So a day and a half of AR-15 media hype are now down the drain.

(55,894 posts)I'll probably be taking care of that brother on some level for the rest of his life because of this.
The other had to be institutionalized a couple of times before he accepted it. Now that brother is in a program where he's monitored and they check if he doesn't show up for his meds. And he knows to do something when the meds aren't working properly.
Heavy duty psychotropic drugs have a lot of unpleasant side effects. So many people don't want to take them. Others try to self medicate with alcohol or whatever.

They believe that their delusions are real and that everyone else is crazy. And you can NOT convince them otherwise. That's part of their disease.
My mom suffered from untreated paranoid schizophrenia for over 35 years, so I know a thing or two about it.
