Father of gang-raped 5-year-old demands justice as case sparks protests across Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan – The father of a five-year-old who was gang-raped and dumped on a road in Pakistan’s second largest city wept as he called on officials to find and punish those responsible for the attack.

"l want justice and for the culprits to be punished severely," the 46-year-old told NBC News from the hospital in the Lahore, the capital of the province of Punjab, where his daughter was being treated.

"I have talked to my daughter a little bit," the man added. "She talks and then closes her eyes."

NBC News is not naming the five-year-old or her father in order to protect the victim's identity.

A report commissioned by Pakistan's Chief Justice found that the child had been raped by a number of people.

The victim was in intensive care after having been operated on twice, doctors said.

Five year old girls are not constructed for sexual intercourse with one man, much less with several.

I think if the government can't come up with some decent laws to protect these children and women, the people are going to have to start doing something, and I'm not normally one for vigilante justice .. but this is just too horrible to let anyone get away with. I can't even imagine her terror and pain, or her father's, knowing what she went through. Just a baby.

9. There is something horribly wrong with a culture

in which so many men think it's perfectly OK to gang rape any female, any age. Call me politically incorrect if you will but this seems to be the norm in Pakistan. How long has this stuff been going on? These stories are just now starting to get world-wide publicity but how many of these types of stories even make it into the regional papers? Is it religion? Is it the culture? What the hell is wrong with an entire population that this is obviously acceptable?
