I am a Fort Worth resident and I eat at the Happy Bowl regularly.

although I haven't been into the restaurant due to circumstances since about June.

Yesterday was weird day for me as I had to put my cat down...and so it was not until
the evening that I found out what was going on.

This guy served me food, but I also saw him around town once while I was out and about.
I went into the restaurant enough that we recognized each other and said pleasantries like
one would...oh hi, nice to see you...how are you....i'll come to the restaurant soon...talked about our jobs for a moment
..blah blah...he did some contract work at the base in Fort Worth, too.

You know, he was just to me some guy in my neighborhood, but you don't think about somebody shooting up
a bunch of people. Why would I?
He was a thoughtful guy...he waited on me many times...
He did have one good set of teeth, was very tall, attractive and had a sweet demeanor.
I kid you not. Sweet and unassuming, very clean cut, and he was soft spoken.
He did have one heck of a smile.

When I saw the news yesterday, I was floored...and believe me...many people in this area
are shocked...I tell you...we are in shock.

We are devastated for the people that he killed, but we are also shocked to know we really
didn't know this guy. I mean, he served me my freaking Green Curry Chicken.

I've chatted with him several times...and at least twice he sat down with me at talked with me while I ate.

This is very sad for me to know he was having all these problems...I had no idea of course...but
I feel bad that he obviously wasn't getting the kind of help he needed...
We really can't know what's going on with some people, I guess.

but I have also never been so creeped out in my life.

I mean, I'm thinking was he packing when he served me my food? Was I ever in
any danger when I was in the restaurant...and my god...I told the guy what I did for a living,
where I lived (not my address, but you know what I mean the major cross roads...etc...)

I'll probably go by the Happy Bowl as soon as all of this calms down a bit. I really feel sorry for the family that
owns the restaurant...as they were very close with him and I know they must be hurting too.
Really is some of the best Thai you will ever have. I'll still go eat there.

just my 2 cents

i've been there too. They are good.

I still think Happy Bowl is better.

I used to live in Dallas, and I think that they outshine in terms of quality, some of the
5 star expensive Thai places that really are very good.

But you live in Texas so you should probably be asking if everyone has a gun and is about to shoot you.

News reports are suggesting a mental illness that became very damaging in recent weeks.

and fishy to me. Bizzaro comes to mind. They all seem to be "normal" & nice people & then go "off". Very odd & disturbing.
I'm sure it is an eerie feeling to have had such pleasant contact w/an individual that allegedly did such a horrible thing. Hope the community can heal from this. My best wishes to you.

I saw it on the news and was seeing his picture....
heard about Fort Worth...wasn't thinking really...

but then I was seeing the news...I began to think...
why do I know that guy and why are they showing his picture?

Then it hit me. I was at my favorite dive and I nearly fell off the bar stool.
I was trying to wind down and didn't want to come home as I didn't want to come home without my cat greeting me at the door
(I had just put her down a couple of hours before).
But then after I realized who it was I just wanted to get home, said "f" this day, and went to bed.

For the passing of your kitty. I know how very, very hard that can be.

Thank you for sharing your story regarding this man. I would be absolutely creeped out and sad and confused as well.

We human beings are so damn complicated.
