Mz Pip was kind enough to PM her host choice to me with why
Host choice goes to postatomic's shoganai.
"I love this photo because it is so delicate and the use of negative space keeps me coming back to it. It reminds me of a lovely watercolor."
Congrats to all the winners, cant wait to see what Octobers contest will be. Keep an eye on the Photography group to find out the what, when and how from Tindalos.
Thank you to all that entered their wonderful photos this month. You add a much needed bit of sanity and beauty to our small corner of the world. Also thank you to all that vote; it wouldnt be a contest without you too.

(4,475 posts)It was really hard to choose a favorite for this month's contest. They were all so great! I did end up voting for the eventual winner, but there were at least 4-5 others I thought were just amazing pictures. DU has such talented photographers!
Also, I wanted to say that I really enjoy the monthly photography contests. I am not a photographer myself, but I love looking at all the thoughtprovoking and beautiful photos taken by other DUers.

(10,525 posts)That was totally unexpected. When I entered, I just hoped to not finish last. Thank you to everyone who voted and for your kind words and support.
Well done to all the other photographers. It was a very tough competition. Really good photos all round.
Thank you to Mz Pip (and CC) for running the contest. I will try to keep things running as smoothly next month.

(18,622 posts)It touched me in the prelims. I thought it was largely under-appreciated from the start, and I found myself gazing at it for quite some time. That (and Static) would make a gorgeous desktop wallpaper. I doubt I could tire of either one.
Congratulations to Tindalos for Purple & Green, that image really pops out at me. It has such great dimension and definition, I felt I walk right through the scene. That must be what good vision looks like... I forget.
I thought Lavender Sky offered so many wonderful shades purple, I began seeing the color all over the image after a few seconds. The sight of snow in the Fall sends a shiver up my back, but It was clearly destined as a strong finalist.
I particulary enjoyed Mira's entry of the Purple Porch. I so much wanted to see a wider shot of that boldly painted house. Mira always finds subjects that are so far off the beaten path, she has to blaze a trail to follow her incredibly artistic eye.
Thank You CC for including my Lilac & Chrome Ford image. I feel honored to do as well as I did this month with a subject that doesn't eat, blossom, or get cloudy. -LOL
Mira
(22,380 posts)of course the kind words about the porch photo. I know how to find it again, if ever I make it back to Key West, and will take a photo of the whole building.
I must say your Purple Ford Photo spoke to me for both the unusual color and crop. It vibrates & I love it.

CC, I agree that everyone needs a "photography group" for sanity. Participating in it has meant so much to me and has kept me grounded.

(22,380 posts)Tin: The color, texture and utter realness of your photo is spectacular. I knew it was first place material when my jaw dropped the minute I saw it. I'm so glad you are participating again, I missed you.
Blue: The diagonal, the gentle and powerful color, the general placement of the components make it a true beauty of a photograph.
Solly: My sense of beauty and aesthetics are ever so tickled by your purple feather. So is my appreciation of your eye for beauty and placement.

(18,622 posts)These pix didn't work out as well, but it was a truly outstanding rod:
So very '60s retro custom, it looks like it could have rolled out of Dean Jeffries California shop a half century ago:
Capped lake pipes and real vintage wires, possibly from a '50s Buick Roadmaster or Caddy Eldo:
No stones left unturned under the canvas with a modern CD/Cassette where one would expect an 8-track. Typical period under dash gauges complete the nostalgic image (purple 70ish T-Bird steering wheel!?):
Attention to the small details bumped this Sunliner up to classic dream:
As a sad aside, I just read where the legendary customizer Dean Jeffries died earlier this year. He was noted for building the MonkeeMobile and the Green Hornet "Black Beauty" TV cars, as well as a range of cutting edge street rods. His estate was auctioned off a couple weeks ago. Thank goodness so many learned from his pioneering work.
