(27,247 posts)when I was 5 years old. As a 5-year-old, I had no idea what it was all about, but now I think that essentially it was merely young parents wanting to show off their kids. Looking at photos of that event, it seems like nobody really got dressed up, we apparently were just trying to look as cute as possible.

(16,820 posts)People in our society already are too self-conscious about their looks. I don't even like adult beauty pageants, much less pageants for children. Good-looking people usually know they are already, and the people who are less attractive, especially kids, don't need reminders.
