3. 1954 was also the year

that the Secretary of State and head of the CIA , the Dulles Bros. , successfully conspired to remove the democratically elected President of Guatemala.

...the US government overthrew the popular democratically-elected president of Iran and replaced him with the brutal Shah, just because he sucked up to the US more? Very, very bad idea in retrospect.
