I see this morning that a whole crew of village pundits are lighting their hair on fire over the possibility that President Obama's political fortunes are in trouble these days. Apparently they think the President is in trouble with his "base" or that he's losing the support of Congressional Democrats.snip
You want to talk about someone who's having trouble with their "base?" Lets take a moment to look at Speaker Boehner. Republicans have been lathering up their constituency's hatred of Obamacare since 2009. And now they're paying the price. Two weeks out from a government shutdown, the lunatic caucus in the House has refused to even pass a short-term extension of the current budget unless it defunds Obamacare. Apparently today Boehner is giving in to the lunatics and so the bill the House will take up this week to keep the government operating will include a provision to defund Obamacare. If it passes the House, it will die in the Senate...and then what?
The interesting thing here is what Sargent pointed out...the unity of the Democrats in defending Obamacare. Those of us who watched all the drama as that bill was underway can't help but notice how everyone on the left has now rallied around it. If the "kill the bill" folks had any leverage, surely they'd be lining up with the lunatics these days - just as they were trying to do to stop it from passing in the first place. We also remember the concern trolling some in the media were peddling during the 2010 and 2012 elections about how Democrats should distance themselves from Obamacare in their campaigns.
What changed? Over time it has become obvious to everyone but the lunatics on the right that Obamacare is working (I actually think many of the lunatic leaders also know its working...that's what they're so afraid of). And so, for those of us who buy into the President's commitment to the long game, our trust in those who fought so hard for Obamacare is once again vindicated.

(24,096 posts)The President has accomplished many spectacular things (considering all the ridiculous odds and opposition! madness!) but Obamacare is going to be what he is remembered for most for so far into the future.
Do you remember when the Right coined the phrase 'Obamacare' like it was supposed to be an insult?
And that word, Obamacare, that the RW and baggers and Stragglers of same Mind Set (wink) - subliminally reinforces that yes, Obama does Care. Every time some knothead on Fox says it and every time someone says it with a smile. ha!

Obamacare was an idea by the Heritage Foundation, a conservative "think tank". Now conservatives want to disown it because Obama started it5:34 AM - 18 Sep 2013

(83,746 posts)Our President wears "Obamacare" as a Badge of Honor. And it is!
Through all the opposition and down right hate he keeps pulling us forward.
Obamacare is going to be a game changer for so many people. It will save lives for the young and old alike. Think of the benefits for same sex partners! The list goes on and on. Guess what, Whisp, those baggers and Repukes that scream the loudest will never, ever admit that it will be helping them too.
Obama cares, Oh yes he does.

(37,540 posts)They've spent 2 decades railing against the evil's of Hillary, now Obamacare. And it appears that we, the middle-class have been getting screwed to the tune of $1000's of dollars a year. There's a growing pool of evidence that health insurance reform is going to save people a lot of money. When the success of Obamacare becomes widely known, the Republicans are reap the harvest of what they've sown for the past 20 years. It's no wonder that sinking the ACA is their only real legislative agenda over the past 5 years - because they cannot allow it to be successful.

A new poll finds that many Americans are confused about the health care overhaul legislation commonly called Obamacare.
The Kaiser Family Foundation released results of a non-partisan study today finding more than 40 percent did not even know the law was in place.
Four in ten Americans (42%) are unaware that the ACA [Affordable Care Act] is still the law of the land, the report says, including 12 percent who believe the law has been repealed by Congress, 7 percent who believe it has been overturned by the Supreme Court and 23 percent who say they dont know enough to say what the status of the law is.

Of course, the Democrats did absolutely nothing to educate anyone
