Medical marijuana advocates protest removal of Lansing baby

The case of a 6-month-old Lansing girl who was removed from her parents after a complaint involving medical marijuana has become a rallying point for groups aligned behind the state’s 5-year-old medical marijuana law.

Holding placards and chanting, “Free Bree,” dozens of people gathered outside the Grand Tower on Tuesday to protest the state Department of Human Services’ efforts to remove Brielle (Bree) Green from parents Gordon (Steve) and Maria Green.

Acting on a petition by Children’s Protective Services caseworkers, an Ingham County Family Court referee on Friday ordered the infant removed from her parents’ home because her mother — a registered medical marijuana caregiver — had marijuana in the house, the groups said.

Do they take children away from parents prescribed opiates? do they make exceptions for codeine in cough medicine? What about those prescribed benzodiazepines? (I am in no way advocating that children should be taken away simply because one is prescribed something).

For the record I am not a big fan of cannabis (I do think it should be legal for medical and recreational use ... I am simply not a fan of the use of it for me or folk in my life) ... but, this is absolutely criminal.

But fucking booze is fucking FINE. This mother could have drank through her entire pregnancy, and smoked cigarettes, and still have custody of it. If I had a kid and they needed medical MJ, I would NOT hesitate to give it to them. Fuck the law. I know this wasn't over that.

And WTF is this idiotic statement by the referee

"The referee said the marijuana creates a dangerous situation because “someone with a gun could break in,” Steve Green said".
Sounds like an Archie Bunker statement.

It just so happens they are playing Archie's logic about gun control tonight. LOL!

But this is money misspent. Where does Michigan find the money to do this I wonder. So many more children that need help, and they're wasting time and money on this.

To the parents?

Thanks for the sorrow for us we need it.

prescribed medication and any host of other valuable enticements need to get rid of their possessions or give up their children.

The referee said the marijuana creates a dangerous situation because “someone with a gun could break in,” Steve Green said.

Aspirin?
Tylenol?
Ibuprofen?
rubbing alcohol?
detergents?
antiseptics?
bleach?
household ammonia?

all more dangerous than marijuana.
