The reason? A 2009 post on his website that connects the rise of working women with what he says is a rise in mass shootings and other violence perpetrated by men.
The collaborative, flexible, amorphously-hierarchical American economy is shutting out ordinary men who were once the nations breadwinners in living-wage labor and manufacturing jobs, Rubens wrote. Because status success is more vital to the male psychology, males are falling over the edge in increasing numbers.
A collaborative and flexible economy is one that has opened the door to more women working, Rubens wrote. And the nature of the changing economy has had a detrimental effect on men, including an increase in violence.
The collapsing number of male jobs in the increasingly female-centric economy just adds to the already harsher impact of OverSuccess on males, he wrote, referring to the title of his 2008 book.

NH is a gorgeous state, though. I would say it looks like real New England - still undeveloped in areas and small towns.
If I had to move somewhere in NE, I would probably pick either there, Vermont, or Maine. All beautiful and full of decent people despite the nuts you see in the news.

(114,904 posts)and I know the state well. Vermont is very, very different politically and socially from NH- (also visually, believe it or not)
Vermont is more rural than NH and fifty times more progressive, so your explanation holds no water,

(3,220 posts)I remember it was pretty rural in some areas, so maybe I just remember those. It's seemed more rural than lower New England. Some parts, that is.

Women, of course, should resume their age-old occupation of punching bag so violent men have some sort of release besides shooting up a theatre, workplace, etc.

(45,427 posts)that don't have as much domestic terrorism mass shootings as we do. Damn those uppity women don't leave any other choice.
Some folks do like to blame their career problems on new entrants to the workforce who were previously shut out, like minorities and women, and disabled, etc.
