Mormon Church finally launches official Attack of Hawaii marriage equality...

after being strangely silent on the issue, the Mormon Church Inc has finally launched its official attack on marriage equality in Hawaii, now that the governor has called for a special legislative session to consider the issue.

http://www.sltrib.com/sltrib/news/56890226-78/church-hawaii-lds-legislation.html.csp

This official attack was read to congregations across the island. Mormons were told to protest as private citizens in an attempt to make it look like it is a matter of personal choice, not official doctrine.

Mormons are advised to phrase their discriminations against LGBTs as part of their religious rights to discriminate in order to
"...protect individuals and small businesses from being required to assist in promoting or celebrating same-sex marriages."

Yet if a person refused to business with a Mormon because the Mormon religion was considered an abomination, those poor offended Mormons would be screaming bloody murder.

There is some discussion online in LDS circles that this is being done by local leadership and not with the support of SLC. If thats the case they are going to be scolded big time... (local authorities have no authority unless SLC tells them to do something.)

There is some evidence of a shift away from keeping same-sex marriages illegal.

I'm not exactly sure what kind of exemption they are looking for as far as businesses and individuals. The first part of it seems straightforward enough - Mormons don't want to be required to perform marriages for same sex couples. I guess this is so that a cake shop can refuse to make a wedding cake for a gay marriage? Or a dress/tuxedo place could do the same? Problematic.

Full disclosure, I am an active member of the Mormon Faith.

The "church" has dick to do with marriage. They are free to perform ceremonies for their members, once they obtain a state license.

The Mormon "church" hates gays and wishes to deny them civil rights. They don't care about the ceremony. They hate gays.

There are 81 Mormon Temple properties in the US and according to Forbes "Deseret Management is owned by DMC Reserve Trust, a religious, educational and charitable trust affiliated with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. The company operates as a holding company for operations including: radio and television broadcasting (Bonneville International Corp.); book retailing (Deseret Book); real estate investment and management (Zions Securities and Hawaii Reserves); insurance (Beneficial Life Insurance Company); a newspaper (the Deseret News); and agriculture (Ag Reserves)."
