Staying with a friend happened to see the final for AGT. A quirky awkward geeky comedian had, much to my surprise, actually gotten all the way to the final (and ended up as the runner up). While they tortured everyone for two hours waiting for the results they had some diversions.
One of them was having James Lipton give the "Inside the Actor's Studio" treatment and ask him the traditional questions he asks his regular guests.
When it came to "What is your favorite curse word" Taylor Williamson gave this priceless response:
"Dick Cheney" delivered with a sly grin.
The huge crowd exploded in appreciative laughter.
That follows the Mel Brooks philosophy on human monsters, laugh at them until everyone sees how ridiculous they really are.
When the voting audience skipped past the flag waving country singer and other emotional choices and picked Kenichi Ebina a Japanese dancer as America's greatest talent and watched him struggle with his thank you in English you couldn't help but be a little bit proud that they didn't follow the obvious cliché.

(16,926 posts)The judges were right about this year - any of the finalists could easily have won in any other year. It makes me think, despite America's appetite for one winner, maybe one of these shows should call the final five or six contestants winners and get them each a gig, even if not the Vegas show and a million bucks.
I was glad to see Kenichi win if only one could be the finalist, he was flat unbelievable (and upright unbelievable after peeling himself off the flat position).

(25,225 posts)I think he is really funny in his own right and I think they can build a sit-com around his personality. I kind of liken him to the Sheldon character on Big Bang Theory. Taylor is not a brainiac like Sheldon - but his persona is such that he's genuinely funny.
If any of you are TV Show Producers - here's an opportunity for you.
