(23,531 posts)I recently turn vegan after being a vegetarian for 30 years. The cruelty to animals in factory farming is just insane. There weren't so many factory farms years ago. There is truth in the ad about the animals being kept in dark small spaces where they can't move much. It's something people need to know about. That is one good thing coming out of the ad.
I have less of a problem with the idea of meat coming from non factory farms because the animals can move and interact with each other. I don't have much of a problem with the concept of hunting and eating meat that way.
The one thing I am sure is unethical about the manipulation in the ad is that it promotes veganism for a restaurant that serves meat. In the end of the ad the scarecrow is raising a vegetable farm no meat or dairy. That is NOT Chipotle. If they do use products from factory farming, especially in meat, then the ad is even more deceptive. The ad seems more appropriate for Native foods
But, the bottom line is, it is good people are discussing factory farming. But, Chipotle is being deceptive.

(16,916 posts)as the parody accuses the source, but without the creativity.
"This is just a way to advertise, open up your heart and use it" - truly, the parody is just a way to advertise, but what are they advertising?. Anti-Chipotle-ism? Why trust Funny or Die's parody? All they really want is to drive viewers to their site. They have no fundamental interest in being green (or liberal).
According to Greenopia, Chipotle is solidly green:
http://www.greenopia.com/usa/fastfood_listing.aspx?ID=9&input=Name+or+product&Listpage=0
Chipotle has over 1,000 locations across the US that make about $1.8 billion in annual revenue.
Green Efforts:
Chipotle does a lot to be green. One of its biggest focuses is on the products they serve. Chipotle uses natural meats, hormone-free chicken, and uses a significant amount of organic beans (25-30%). It also strives to source some ingredients locally and seasonally. Chipotle also excels in other green initiatives. Chipotle opened its first LEED platinum certified restaurant and many of its other locations have elements of green building design. Chipotle also offers environmentally friendly utensils which biodegrade naturally.
Green Issues:
All in all, Chipotle is pretty solid. One thing we would like to see is a comprehensive sustainability report that outlines it supply chain and impacts more empirically. Also, we would like to see Chipotle completely adopt the organic and/or natural food model. Other chains have done so successfully and it would be great to see such a large chain go all the way with their product.
Greenopia Verdict:
Chipotle remains one of the greenest fast food chains in the US.

(62,269 posts)They are not saying that Chipotle isn't green.
If all corporations were green it wouldn't change the fact that they utilize wage slavery.

(16,916 posts)where they mocked Chipotle for utilizing wage slavery. I was responding to what was actually in the clip.
By the way - where does Funny or Die sit in regards to going green, utilizing wage slaves, or any other number of liberal/progressive positions?
Sorry Josh, this rip on Chipotle reminds me of Climate Deniers dismissing global warming because Al Gore drove an SUV.
