If the Republicans don't "succeed" in shutting down the Government and/or defaulting on the debt, their lunatic base will be mad at them and refuse to vote for them. If they do "succeed" in either shutting down the Government or defaulting on the debt, they will have many millions more made at them (including many of their traditional contributors) who will no longer vote for them.
I really don't see how the GOP can win in this situation. Like Dr. Frankenstein, they have created a monster that is now on the loose and out of their control.
I'm not predicting the end of the GOP, but I think they will be in the minority for a long time to come.
Works for me!

(3,795 posts)piss off their base as well. When the Republican Party goes off the rails (like they are now), I always get nervous waiting for the Democrats to do something to provide cover to the Republicans.
It has seemed over the past decade that one of the top priorities of the Democratic Party has been to ensure the viability of the Republican Party.
It is an absolute disgrace that the Democrats are not able to TROUNCE the Republican Party in this country with how horrible it has become over the past few decades. The only reason they can't is that they have become infested with agents that prevent it from implementing any real change that will benefit the majority of Americans. **I'm looking at you Third Way, DLC, New Dems**
