Not The Onion: Cruz planning to filibuster Bill defunding Obamacare

Cruz demanded that the House pass a bill that ties defunding Obamacare to not shutting down the government, so that the bill would come to the Senate.

And when it gets to the Senate Cruz will fillibuster the Bill... so that the bill he demanded be sent to the Senate will never be voted on. Because... well... teh awesome!

Sen. Ted Cruz said Friday that Republican senators should, in effect, filibuster the House-passed continuing resolution in the Senate.

The Texas Republican is calling on his colleagues to oppose limiting debate on it, warning against what he calls procedural trickery.

“Step two is the Senate, where all accounts suggest Harry Reid plans to use procedural gimmicks to try to add funding back in for Obamacare,” Cruz said. “If Reid pursues this plan — if he insists on using a 50-vote threshold to fund Obamacare with a partisan vote of only Democrats — then I hope that every Senate Republican will stand together and oppose cloture on the bill in order to keep the House bill intact and not let Harry Reid add Obamacare funding back in.”

My view is very simple: the Democrats should let the bill go through as written. At the same time, the White House needs to borrow Brian Schweitzer's custom-made VETO branding iron, which that crazy sumbitch loved to use to strike down Republican stupidity when he was Montana governor. When the Republican Atrocity reaches the president's desk, the president needs to take it outside and brand VETO on it on national television.
