No Time Left For Negotiations With Iran: Israeli Minister

Source: REUTERS

Reuters – 7 hours ago

JERUSALEM (Reuters) - Iran is on course to develop a nuclear bomb within six months and time has run out for further negotiations, a senior Israeli minister said.

Strategic Affairs Minister Yuval Steinitz said Iran still believed it had room for maneuver in dealing with world powers, and that unless it faced a credible threat of U.S. military action, it would not stop its nuclear activities.

"There is no more time to hold negotiations," Steinitz, who is close to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, said in an interview with the Israel Hayom daily published on Friday.

"One must not be fooled by the Iranian president's fraudulent words," Netanyahu's office said in a statement on Thursday. "The Iranians are spinning in the media so that the centrifuges can keep on spinning."

Most here would know me as a supporter of Israel, and I remain of that inclination, but this sort of thing damages Israel, and people who encourage it are not that country's friends.

And doing and saying precisely the opposite of what would bolster those interests. It is interesting but typical of the extreme right, to huff and puff about these things, but in support of treasonous policies.

problem. Iran finally has leaders that seem willing to talk and compromise, the USA needs to pursue a discussion. President Obama will be right to talk to the Iranian President when both are at the UN.

If Netanyahu's office is so eager to believe previous Iranian leaders' words that they will bomb Israel, why don't they believe them now when they say they're against nuclear weapons?

Iran: Religious decree against nuclear weapons is binding

TEHRAN, Iran Iran sought Tuesday to spell out in its clearest terms yet that it is not seeking nuclear weapons, highlighting a religious decree issued by Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei that bans nuclear weapons.

The latest reference to Khamenei's declaration is seen as a bid to close the door on debates that Iran may have carried out atomic bomb trigger tests as inspectors from the U.N. atomic watchdog were on their way to Tehran for a new round of discussions.

Iran authorities have often cited Khamenei's religious edict, made more than seven years ago, in attempts to counter Western suspicion that Iran could be moving toward nuclear arms. But Iranian leaders now appear increasingly desperate to reopen talks with world powers as a possible way to ease sanctions.

If the U.S. still went by previous Soviet Union statements instead of placing some level of trust in newer ones, we would never have ended the Cold War.
