Meet the two Democrats who voted to defund Obamacare both conservative democrats

Two Democratic members of the House voted with Republicans Friday to defund Obamacare and fund the government until the end of the year: Utah Rep. Jim Matheson and North Carolina Rep. Mike McIntyre.

Matheson is the sole Democratic member of the Utah delegation, a state that Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney won with almost 73 percent of the vote. Matheson, on the other hand, eked out a win in 2012, beating former Saratoga Springs Mayor Mia Love in 2012 by fewer than 3,000 votes.

Love has said she will challenge Matheson again in 2014.

McIntyre’s race was even tighter: he beat Republican state senator David Rouzer by fewer than 700 votes, a margin so slim that McIntyre was only declared the winner after a recount. Rouzer has announced he will challenge McIntyre again in 2014.

In a statement on Facebook, Matheson said he did not support putting the Obamacare provision in the continuing resolution, but that he did not want to shut down the government.

“It is irresponsible to add unrelated provisions to legislation to keep our government running. I have always preferred straightforward legislating that avoids political games. However, I believe we should avoid shutting down the government, and I voted for a continuing resolution to keep the legislative process working toward that end today,” he said.

McIntyre, in a statement, said he supporting defunding and wanted to keep the government open.

How does he think that funding Obamacare is an 'unrelated provision' ?

Obamacare is LAW and should be funded.

I hate defending conservatives, but I'm pretty sure he meant that he thought the defunding ACA provision was inappropriate to put in the resolution but he voted for it anyway to avoid total government shutdown (I'm not saying the logic makes perfect sense)

True they voted to starve the poor instead! Is feeding the poor and hungry something championed by counterproductive left wing nuts?

If so count me in as a counterproductive left wing nut!

I have only visited Utah twice and rapidly drove through NC so I did not interact with Democrats in those states perhaps starving the poor is a Democratic Value in those states? I do not know.

Anyone know what are the values of the Democrats in UT and NC seeing that their representatives have no problem voting to starve the poor in America?

I remember how it wasn't good enough for them and they wanted it dead.

So it seems odd that the most liberal members of Congress have sold out by not going along with this. Apparently the most liberal members of Congress are OK with Obamacare going ahead? Does that mean they've sold out to the insurance companies? Because it was not the so called conservative Democrats of DU opposed it, it was the ones who claim to be more progressive.

I mean they don't need insurance, they need health care, this is just to help the insurance companies, so why is it Conservative Democrats from red states opposing it now?

Fuck conservatism and conservatives. No matter what party they identify with.

The fact that that other thread is allowed to stand on the "new" DU is a testament to how far off the fucking deep end this place has gone since a certain someone was elected president.

It's something I've been seeing more and more posted by different people, so it must have been a meme sent to them.

How do they reconcile that liberals want to save SS and Medicare and want single payer health care with liberals hating government? It's one of the 20 things...

You just KNOW their Republican opponents claimed they were Commie.

What got them in was city dwellers who are more Liberal than the rural types. Mainly because they don't see "government" as something distant and theoretical and defined by the Right.

Democrats that can win in their districts. Despite all of the blue sky bullshit and the conjecture about what would happen if liberals ran in those districts, that last statement is a FACT. A liberal would get electorally crushed in Matheson and McIntyre's districts.

What Democrats should focus on is gaining control of the US House and state legislatures during the next midterm. With that control the regressive legislation that republicans are putting forward will be eliminated and elected representatives can spend valuable time working on issues like jobs and rebuilding the nation's infrastructure.
