The Part Of The State In Colorado Effected By Floods Mostly GOP Some Want Secession.

Many of the people effected by the Colorado floods are GOP dominated areas. Perhaps this flood will show them the need for government and fair taxes that pay for infrastructure. I see so many "don't tread on me attitudes and flags" in such areas I wonder if this tragedy, which it is will change their perspective. Those helicopters were government in action. Without such aid they would be faced with hiking out.

The rural and mountain areas are traditionally conservative and antigovernment. It is very hard to get a Democrat elected in the most effected parts of the state of Colorado. Boulder may be more Democratic but go north of Boulder and it is very conservative and anti progressive.

Colorado Springs where the worst fires were vote GOP and recalled a Democratic Senator. They even voted against a 1 cent on $10 dollars for fire protection tax to pay for fire protection. And many of the homes lost had no fire protection zone.

A part of the state that was also devastated by the flood also want to secede from Colorado because they don't like gun safety laws and Democrats help the little guy approach to government. Weld County is one of the most racist counties in the country and belongs in Mississippi and NOT Colorado. If all the communities effected in Colorado were minority the GOP would be bitching about the cost.

I am sorry so many people were effected by this flood. But the Congressional rep in that part of the state is a teabagger who believes in "little government" and no social programs and I am sure voted to cut food stamps and shut down the government. Yet he will probably be re elected in that area as will the other Congressional rep in NE Colorado which encompasses Weld County and other conservative counties who do not accept the Dem controlled Colorado legislature.

Under the Tabor amendment in Colorado the legislature cannot really raise taxes to pay for the damage incurred by the flood and will have to depend on federal funding.

Never underestimate the capacity for convoluted logic from these Koch-lovin' commissioners and their minions. I certainly don't, and a quick search found this glaring example:

Weld country was substantially racist and bigoted even back in 1969. I moved in 1972. They have not changed ONE iota. They have be blood red and remain so. They are one of the chief instigators of secession. They are very libertarian up there and don't want anything to do with any federal or state regulations that are NOT GOP sponsored. They hate Dems up there more than the terrorists.

Now they will need great amounts of state and federal help. They believe they deserve the help but minorities and poor people don't. That these people are lazy takers. Many of the people losing everything are the same people who vote GOP every time. The complete dislocation of logic is more of a mental illness than anything.

I say give it to them, make sure that they are taken care of, but constantly remind them that this is what good government does FOR EVERY ONE!!!!

They will still want to secede up there. As if their guns really helped in the flood.

Those who attempt to straddle a fence are knocked down posthaste.

They will find themselves worthy of receiving government aid while condemning recipients in all other areas as 'takers.'

And in a few days there is a public forum on the 51st state idea; it was scheduled before the flood, and there are likely a few muttered "oh shit"s among the seceders. They don't dare cancel it now.

With fracking tanks spilling into our water supply, Greeley's mayor is having a re-election campaign fundraiser hosted by a fracking company.

Our "representative", Cory Gardner (owned and operated by big oil), promised to do everything in his power to help those devastated by the flooding; then he voted to cut food stamps.

Our sheriff led the charge to refuse enforcement of new gun legislation. With his good buddy, DA Ken Buck, he illegally raided the files of a tax preparer in the Hispanic community, and they both got spanked by the state supreme court for that. Sheriff is running for Scott 'Leviticus' Renfroe's state senate seat, Buck is running again for Senate; Buck forgets that there is this thing called videotape.

Why do I stay? Because it's MY home, dammit! Our Democrats may be in the minority, but our numbers are gaining allies among the unaffiliated voters who are presently highly incensed.

It's not boring, here. Stay tuned.
