GOP Poll finds strong opposition to a government shutdown

In a national survey of 1,000 registered voters done July 31 and August 1, the question, from pollster David Winston, said, “Some members of Congress have proposed shutting down the government as a way to defund the president’s health care law” and asked respondents whether they favored or opposed that plan.

Overall, 71 percent of those surveyed opposed a shutdown, while 23 percent favored a shutdown. Among Republicans, 53 percent opposed, versus 37 percent who favored.

The good news is that we've won. Given these polling results, the GOP is stuck between backing down in the most humiliating way possible, and taking actions that will absolutely, 100%, cause them to lose their majority in 2014.

It's good to see the GOP being punished for being captured by their fringe wingnuts.

If the government defaults; will the fallout from that be a deepening of austerity policies?
How much slumbering power is in the system ready to be brought forth when the system crashes, either by chance of as an objective?

Even though four out of ten constitutes a minority. In the GOP, minority views have a way of speaking a lot louder and more forcefully than they deserve to.

Faux News.

One of those who says he "doesn't trust the liberal media". So, he has quite a warped since of reality when he's being lied to every day.

No kidding. I spend some time on a public polling site called SodaHead. The commentary section of each poll posted provides some forum for discussion. A lot of the RW'ers are knuckleheaded and cannot be reasoned with, at all. Some of them, us "liberals" make some headway with.
I ignore the polls that are obviously so slanted there is no room for a reasonable person to comment. A year ago or so, the site tended to be so overwhelmingly RW no logic could hardly worm it's way in. We still "lose" the polling just by sheer numbers of RW'ers but slowly getting better.
It's really a lot of fun, sort of jaw dropping when the radicals comment in some ignorant fashion, but I'm trying to get more "lefties" to balance things out there. Slowly, that is happening.
If you want to have some fun, I'll link you to one of my polls here, and you can get started:
