U.S. President Barack Obama and Iranian President Hassan Rouhani won't meet during the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday, even on the margins for a handshake, two senior U.S. administration officials told reporters. The officials said such an encounter proved too complicated for Iran back home. Earlier Tuesday, a senior administration official said the White House had "left the door open" to some kind of face-to-face interaction between the presidents. Obama is scheduled to leave New York on Tuesday night.

I think it would have been great if they had a meeting.

(49,961 posts)It would have been nice to at least make a simple gesture of humanity. No strings. Just a simple handshake.

(84,711 posts)"on the side" to work out an agreement. Or, did both Obama and Kerry have it all worked out with Hassan Rouhani by phone the way our MSM says that Kerry, Obama worked with Putin over our "Pull Back" from Syrian Bombing.
I don't think we will know unless there are leaks favorable to both sides for their "Home Crowd."
Sorry...cynical over these reports because it all changes when the "Leaks Come Out" ad to how the "Public Relations" Campaigns on sides spin it.

(84,711 posts)who "told reporters" not want to GIVE THEIR NAMES?
Think about that? This is a tight Administration...and no "Two Senior Administration Officials" would want to end up like Edward Snowden, James Risen of NYT's or others who might be quoted. SO...WHO ARE ...these SENIOR ADMIN OFFICIALS who are LEAKING SECRETS to CNN?
DISGUSTING! THINK ABOUT IT!
