Boy Scouts of America Setup a Kiosk in a Disabled Access Zone

Suzan was appalled to see that the Boy Scouts of America had set up a fundraising table in the disabled access zone at a Tractor Supply in Scarborough, Maine. This is proof that people just don't care about disabled parking or the access zones beside them, which help make them accessible to begin with..

What is this guy teaching his son? JD said "Teaching the children VERY bad behavior and negative values, as well as criminal behavior. YES, they are breaking the law, and showing the public it's okay to abuse the few handicapped parking places we have available. They set up their kiosk, then went in and asked the store manager for permission. I guess teaching them it's easier to ask for forgiveness than permission is now what it's all about."

Considering the state of the planet and society, I'd think the Boy Scouts of America would be at the complete opposite end of what these in Scarborough, Maine are.

We shouldn't place the blame fully on that boy scouts troop though. Suzan said she "politely informed the gentleman what the access zone is for and that there's a $200 fine in Maine for blocking it. He said the manager told him it was OK." So she went inside to speak with him, and he said "The guy already had set up so he gave him the OK. I told him it was an ADA violation to use that zone for anything but it's intended use as well as violating a Maine statute and explained to him about side loading vans. He didn't seem to get it and said he's only seen 4 vans like that in his 4 years at the store and the space has been used in the past for things like this!"

The ADA laws are to be enforced 24/7, and not just when convenient.

and in many cases some assholes sans permits had parked in all the handicapped spots. I caught one, a woman parked in a clearly marked space. As she and her wonderfully healthy kids ran from their van into the store, I stopped her and said, "Know what? We really could have used that spot."

Amazingly, she was shamed enough to move it. Of course my father was shocked to see that I'd learned enough to stand up to ignorant/uncaring pigs; he never could learn to stand up for himself, so I learned it somewhere other than at home.
