When Jesus fed the multitude he didn't ask for paystubs (this was in response to whatever that jerk's name was who misquoted a letter from Paul to state if a person won't work, he shouldn't have food).

Subtle nuance is way over the heads of the Rabid Right.

To me it meant that if you weren't prepared to act in the way Jesus was teaching (Working it), you will not know the kingdom of heaven (pay off).

Who were so convinced that Jesus was coming that they stopped planting and harvesting. Either way, these idiots don't get allegories or parables, unless it's a passage where Jesus tells his followers to feed to poor and heal the sick-- THOSE they can ignore.
